Obstetrics

- Prenatal care: Monitoring the health of the mother and fetus during pregnancy.
- Labor and delivery: Managing the birthing process and any complications that arise.
- Postpartum care: Providing care and support to mothers after childbirth.
Gynecology
- Definition: This branch deals with the health of the female reproductive system, including the ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus, vagina, and breasts.
- Key Areas:
- Routine examinations: Conducting pelvic exams, Pap smears, and breast exams.
- Diagnosis and treatment of disorders: Managing conditions such as menstrual disorders, endometriosis, fibroids, and infections.
- Family planning: Providing contraception counseling and fertility treatments.
Combined Practice
Many physicians practice both obstetrics and gynecology, allowing them to provide comprehensive care throughout a woman’s life—from adolescence through menopause and beyond.
Training
Obstetricians and gynecologists complete a medical degree followed by a residency program that typically lasts four years, combining training in both specialties.
