Obstetrics and Gynecology (often abbreviated as OB/GYN) is a medical specialty that encompasses two related fields: obstetrics and gynecology.

Obstetrics

    • Prenatal care: Monitoring the health of the mother and fetus during pregnancy.
    • Labor and delivery: Managing the birthing process and any complications that arise.
    • Postpartum care: Providing care and support to mothers after childbirth.

Gynecology

Combined Practice

Many physicians practice both obstetrics and gynecology, allowing them to provide comprehensive care throughout a woman’s life—from adolescence through menopause and beyond.

Training

Obstetricians and gynecologists complete a medical degree followed by a residency program that typically lasts four years, combining training in both specialties.
